The WALK 2014

Today, I'm excited to gush over one of my most anticipated events of the season!

For the past 80 years, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) fashion students have been combining painting, sculpture, performance, sound, body, installation and technology into a multimedia runway show. Architechture, technology, and design departments combined for one brilliant celebration!

The annual fashion show and gala benefit student scholarships with fashion presentations throughout the day culminating with the THE WALK in the evening.

The WALK 2014 will take place at Millennium Park on May 2nd, with dinner held at the Harris Theater. Ticket prices for Fashion 2014 start at $40. Ticket prices for THE WALK start at $500.

In honor of the 80th anniversary of the School of the Art Institute Chicago (SAIC) fashion department, Jimmy Choo recently hosted SAIC's "Walk THE WALK", an exclusive pre-event reception I had the pleasure of attending (Instagram here). In one sentance: it was the perfect kick-off party as we near the WALK festivities.

Below are some of the event day details for May 2nd. For more information, visit www.saicfashion.org

I'll be honest, I'm not one to own all of those little trinkets you see in home tours. Simply put, they're not entirely practical & I'd rather buy clothes.

That said, I've recently decided to invest in my office space. It started with the desire to create a gallery wall of my favorite quotes/inspirations, and it's been a slow process of collecting prints & nailing down a theme. This is one of the few places in our home where I have been given the hubby aproved liberty to be openly girly, but as much as I like that idea, I need to make sure that the style I pick is one that is fun but also timeless.

I'm excited to say, it's finally coming together! The items above are those I have sitting at home or in my shopping cart waiting to be "styled" with some Glitterary flare! Note to self: check out Nate Burkus' Target Collection. While I wasn't able to find his office designs online, I recently purchased some gold paper clips & a gold stapler at a steal! The biggest struggle right now is trying to pick frames for the gallery wall. So far, I'm thinking plain black trim, but can't decide whether or not to go with some matting - any suggestions?

Also, remember our Glitterary Holiday Print? In the spirit of office decor, we've transformed that limited edition design into a desktop download! To dress up your tech with a little gold inspo, right click on the image above and download linked file.

Don't forget to send MonVoir some love! Jenna is the uber talented artist behind this design & a killer Instagram-er ;)

Friday Favorites

1.  HAPPY FRIDAY - Guys, I cannot tell you how long I've searched for this image. I think I first spotted this crazy zebra on Ruelala's Facebook page, but when googling a party zebra all that would ever result were zebra themed parties. Not the same thing. Needless to say, if this little diva doesn't bringhten your day, I don't know what can! // Happiness //

2. NARS - I recently found a NARS lip pencil I'd lost, and now I don't know how I was living without it! You all know, NARS is my go-to lip label, but this pencil is on a whole other level of awesome! The coverage lasts incredible long, which is huge in my book, and because of its glossy finish, you get the best of both wearing a lipstick and a gloss all in one! The pencil format is perfect for when you're on the go, and beacause it's not a "heavy" coverage it'll be perfect for spring & summer! Next on my shopping list, a coral shade & I'm thinking it's gonna be Happy Days...

3. ROASTED CHICKPEAS - This is my new obsession! The only downside? I can eat my way through two cans of chickpeas in no time! Hard to realize how much your actually eating when the roasting process shrinks the chickpeas & they taste amazing! The perfect salty cruch you've been craving, plus a dose of spice- if you're into it. Did I mention how easy these are to make? All you need is 2 cans of chickpeas ($2), a little bit of olive oil (I never measure), spices to taste, and lime juice! Sarah's recipe is much more descriptive, but I've been experimenting with my own little recipes and you simply can't go wrong. Foolproof cooking- always my favorite!

4.  REFLECTIONS - On Tuesday evening I came down with a cold, and I'm convinced that being sick is God's way of telling us to be still. Not kidding, I spent most of Wednesday confined to my bed, and while much of it was spent sleeping, I did get to do some reflecting. If you know me (or my Pinterest), you know I'm a sucker for a good quote- always have been, always will be! Words matter, and statement well spoken is worth noting. My friend, Kathryn is an extremely talented graphic designer, and one of the sweetest, thoughtful, & most creative people I know. Kathryn is constantly encouraging me through her Instagram & I'm not even sure she realizes it (trust me, this is one you should follow). If there's one thing I've learned through "style blogging" it's that you have to have your head on straight, and you have to be confident of your identity. This quote reminds me why this is so important.

5.  WANDERLUST - Serious wanderlust going on in my head lately, but what surprised me is where it all led. With this extended winter in Chicago, I would never guess that I'd be itching for a trip back home, but after some lengthy Pinterest wandering all I want is a good hike and camping trip; throw in some fishing and a good fire & I'm perfectly content! Trust me, this is not where I thought this wanderlust would lead, and I won't be following through until we're well into summer, but I am definitely looking forward to a trip back home and getting to show you just how beautiful Alaska is!

That's all in this week's recap, hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!

Welcome back! Today I'm particularly excited to catch up, because I'll get to see some of your faces at tonight's event!!

I have to warn you, this post is full of detail, but I promise every last bit will be worth the read...

Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Annie Hurlbut, co-founder of Peruvian Connection, and her story is the perfect combination of awe and inspiration.

Peruvian Connection's history begins when Annie was only 19, doing anthropological research in the Andes of Peru.

Fascinated by the textiles she saw and the women who wove them into intricate mantas & ponchos, Annie began learning everything she could about the alpaca fibers used in these pieces. Annie studied everything from the spinning and dyeing, the warp-faced weaving techniques, and the ancient tradition of which these fibers were a part.

Not long after, Peruvian Connection was born. Nothing big, just a small collection of sweaters designed by Annie and sold out of her mother's home in Kansas. The goal was simple: offer artisan made, original designs in native Andean luxury fibers.

Though displayed at a much larger scale today, this concept remains the core of Peruvian Connections's values, and while there are now design teams in place the pieces continue to be made by the skilled Andean artisans whose time-honored textile tradition remains an art form.

Thanks to Peruvian Connection's extreme generosity my favorite pieces from this season's collection will be available tonight at 20% off!

In addition, Annie is giving one lucky Glitterary reader a $50 gift card! This email was just received, so the giveaway will be live through Monday, 3/31. All you need to do to enter is head to Peruvian Connection & comment below with your favorite selection.

So, what are you waiting for? If you haven't sent in your RSVP, it's not too late, just email the address in the invite, and join me as we style and shop these incredible pieces!

See you soon! :)
