Oscar Red Carpet 2014

Yesterday Twitter was abuzz. In a nutshell, Kate Hudson stunned on the red carpet, Jennifer Lawrence fell again, Ellen made Twitter history (#smarketing), and Olivia Wilde took maternity attire to a whole new level of glamour. Oh, and Leo waits in hopes for next year yet again(who's a guy gotta know to get an Oscar around here?!).

I'll admit, red carpet recaps don't happen often here on Glitterary, but let's be honest, it's been freezing & no one wants to shoot in this weather.

So, in case you haven't had enough Oscars in the last 24 hours, my top 5 best dressed list...

1. Kate Hudson - This hollywood royalty, most recently gracing our magazines as the face of ANN TAYLOR, stunned in a silver beaded gown by Atelier Versace. Kate topped off her look with simple elegance including vintage hollywood locks swept to one side, Jimmy Choo shoes, & a Versace clutch proving that less is more.

2. Lupita Nyong'o - Not only did Lupita grace us with an acceptance speach so elloquent it's bound to carry us through the remainder of 2014, but who can forget this whimsical moment on the red carpet. Floating to the stage in blue Parade chiffon, Lupita made for an Oscar's experience to remember.

3. Jenna Dewan Tatum - Neutrals were a big hit at this year's regal fete, and while this acrtress was neither nominated or featured in any particular film of 2013 that I can remember, she was not overlooked on the red carpet. Jenna wore a nude gown by Reem Acra, tweeting "#Oscars bound! Feeling like a fairy tonight!". One can only hope to look this good after having a baby, which brings me to my next best dressed lady...

4. Olivia Wilde- Who knew 7months could look so good! This soon to be momma, took maternity attire to the next level in a classic and ever so elegant black and white gown by Valentino. With a silhouette that hugged her baby bump like a glove, Olivia Wiled gave the phrase "pregnant in heels" a new meaning.

5. Kate Blanchet - Cate Blanchett is said to perhaps have been THE best dressed star on the red carpet, her Giorgio Armani gown glittering with swarovski crystals from top to bottom. This made for a heavy but classicly couture ellegance true to Armani & hollywood glamour.

While there were many more who turned heads including Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Sandra Bullock, and Camelia Alvez, these 5 have left me craving an occasion to replicate their understated ellegance.

Who were your red carpet favorites?...

Happy Monday!

I'm not one to borrow the husband's side of the closet- no, I do my own shopping in the men's department.

Today's look is a combination of chic feminine basics paired with some casual men's accessories you'd never guess were made for the boys. This look is a go-to ensemble and the perfect transitional uniform for spring!

While only the accessories from this look were found in men's departments, when shopping in said areas here are the items I look for:

  • cassual button up shirts (they're designed to be longer and less fitted, but definitely go down a few sizes)
  • sweaters (hoodies especially)
  • bags (usually canvas/leather)
  • hats (any kind)
  • belts / other leather accessories

Happy shopping!

Business as Usual

Happy Friday!! This weekend we get to show off our city to the inlaws, but while I'm ready to get this family party started, today is full of checking things off the to-do list.

Today's look is simply business as usual. Simple, conservative, and on trend, this look is a failproof office go-to. I've found a variety of pieces to recreate this look in different hues and patterns, so in addition to the links above, feel free to peruse the shopable scroll bar at the bottom of this post.

This week has been slightly chaotic on my end, so my apologies for slacking on the Instagram and Twitter updates. To make up for it and guarantee you're up to date with all that's happening on Glitterary here's a quick weekly roundup:

  1. There's a party on Thursday and you're invited! The concept is simple, sip great cocktails, shop my favorite season's accessories, and enjoy a beautiful view of our city from atop the Vertigo Sky Lounge! More details here.
  2. Rocker style is still in, and these cool layers are sure to help you survive the remainder of winter in style.
  3. Truth: "Forehead Kisses are Underrated", but you can win this fun top thanks to goodhYOUman! Giveaway ends Monday night, so enter here now.

That's all folks. Have a fantastic weekend, and as always thanks a million for stopping by!

Clouded Judgement

This time of year I tend to get all sorts of flustered. Chicago weather is tempermental, and it's no surprise I'm craving Spring. Within the last 48 hours we have seen snow falling at a rate of 2 inches per hour, followed by toasty 44 degree temperatures. Frankly, I'm not sure how to dress in this climate.

Perhaps it's because I grew up in Alaska, but functional fashion is critical to my wardrobe; let's just say my better half knows when I'm being follish for wearing strappy heels in winter.

Despite our recent frigid spells, my judgement is clouded by hopes of spring. While my better half is inclined to cling to some fur, I'm also inspired to sport my lighter layers.

The result? This black and white composition that I don't even know how to describe, but I think I love. What do you think?...

Winter Prepster

Coat: Barbour via. Isle of man | Top | Skirt (old) - Similar | Boots | Bag | Lip color

It's still winter, but unlike the last few months, it's feeling like a heatwave in Chicago right now. Granted, by heatwave I'm refering to the mere 32 degrees above zero, but I'll take what I can get.

Today's look is unusually preppy for my style, and yet quite fitting. You see, my favorite part of working in fashion is that I really do feel like I'm playing dress up each day. One day I can be a little more edgy and the next I can be a total prepster, and neither is wrong.

The funny thing is while you may think there is a lot of structure to my styling habbits, what I wear is primarily selected based on how I feel or want to feel each day. It's always a mystery and always a slight costume change, but most importanty it's always a lot of fun!

So there's my challenge for you– be intentional about having fun with your wardrobe and don't limit yourself. Fit & structure are key, but those translate across all styles, so don't be afraid to branch out of your ordinary and see if you fins a new look that gives you a new boost of confidence for the day ;)
