City in a Snow Globe

Today, we're throwing it back to February when the hubs and I got to escape to Chicago for a weekend getaway. As much as I prefer 70-80 degree weather, a fresh snowfall in the city is magical, and the 3 days we got to spend in that snow globe were perfection!...

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fireJack Frost nipping at your noseYuletide carols being sung by a choirAnd folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoeHelp to make the season brightTiny tots with their eyes all aglowWill find it hard to sleep tonight..."
Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song

This holiday season looks a little different, and I mean that quite literally. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the  crunchy leaves and 70 degree days in December– that's both awesome and ridiculous. However, this is my first holiday season without snow and that's a big deal.

Growing up in Alaska, I only had one birthday without snow, and my birthday comes before Thanksgiving. To me the holidays are a cozy season by the fire with a warm drink. Christmas music is always in the background (more about that here) and the Christmas tree is always lit. Big sweaters, leggings, and boots are essentials, and fuzzy beanies feel like a December hug. It's the little things like these that make this time of year my favorite.

The hubs and I will be headed home for the holidays in just a week, and I can't tell you how excited I am to replace this backdrop with mountaintops and snow. Follow on Instagram, and I'll show you what I mean ;)

I'd love to hear how you spend your holidays! Use hashtag #HowDoYouHoliday...

Could it finally be Spring outside?! A little part of me fears rejection, so let's "knock on wood" just to be safe...

If you have a job that allows you to wear jeans beyond the casual Friday, consider yourself lucky, and take advantage of it. This look is one with many purposes, great for brunch, easy for work, & fun for a casual date night.

I've personally probably worn it for all three of those ocassions. What can I say? When you find something that works, you keep doing it.

An easy go-to shop for work to evening pieces (and let's be honest, day sequins!!) is J.Crew. Somehow, I know that if I'm ever on the hunt for something I can dress up or down quickly, I know I'll be safe at J.Crew.

Think about it- pair one of their signature pencil skirts with a silk top and blazer and your ready for work. Ditch the blazer and you're ready for happy hour. Swap it for a graphic tee and your ready for Sunday brunch with the girls.

Fashion you can mix around like this is always prefered in my closet.

Happy Tuesday!

I'm not one to borrow the husband's side of the closet- no, I do my own shopping in the men's department.

Today's look is a combination of chic feminine basics paired with some casual men's accessories you'd never guess were made for the boys. This look is a go-to ensemble and the perfect transitional uniform for spring!

While only the accessories from this look were found in men's departments, when shopping in said areas here are the items I look for:

  • cassual button up shirts (they're designed to be longer and less fitted, but definitely go down a few sizes)
  • sweaters (hoodies especially)
  • bags (usually canvas/leather)
  • hats (any kind)
  • belts / other leather accessories

Happy shopping!

Business as Usual

Happy Friday!! This weekend we get to show off our city to the inlaws, but while I'm ready to get this family party started, today is full of checking things off the to-do list.

Today's look is simply business as usual. Simple, conservative, and on trend, this look is a failproof office go-to. I've found a variety of pieces to recreate this look in different hues and patterns, so in addition to the links above, feel free to peruse the shopable scroll bar at the bottom of this post.

This week has been slightly chaotic on my end, so my apologies for slacking on the Instagram and Twitter updates. To make up for it and guarantee you're up to date with all that's happening on Glitterary here's a quick weekly roundup:

  1. There's a party on Thursday and you're invited! The concept is simple, sip great cocktails, shop my favorite season's accessories, and enjoy a beautiful view of our city from atop the Vertigo Sky Lounge! More details here.
  2. Rocker style is still in, and these cool layers are sure to help you survive the remainder of winter in style.
  3. Truth: "Forehead Kisses are Underrated", but you can win this fun top thanks to goodhYOUman! Giveaway ends Monday night, so enter here now.

That's all folks. Have a fantastic weekend, and as always thanks a million for stopping by!
