If you didn't see pink ribbons decorating your city last month, frankly, you may need new glasses-- we recommend Warby Parker ;) October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month, and as we enter the month of November, we want to urge all of our Glitteraries out there to continue to keep breast cancer awareness in mind. Here in Chicago, we're big fans of Bright Pink and their early detection stance against cancer. "Bright Pink is creating a movement of brilliant, bold, and bright young women who are proactive advocates for their health" and we believe a Glitterary should be just that! As women we are automatically at higher risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer, not to mention further genetic and lifestyle factors that can add to our risk level. Each year approximately 70,000 men and women ages 15-39 are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. alone, but you don't have to be one of them. If you haven't already heard of Lindsay Avner, founder of Bright Pink, we recommend taking a moment to read her story and be inspired. When Lindsay was just 23 years old, she learned of a genetic factor that made her 87% likely of developing breast cancer and put her at a 54% risk of developing ovarian cancer. Since that moment, she has been a relentless advocate for cancer awareness and prevention. Thus, as we move on to a season of holidays, please remember to care for your health and learn more about how you can protect yourself against cancer year-round! We hope you enjoy these Pink inspired looks and take a moment to visit BrightPink.org.
Yours truly,
D+S
